Grant's Markie Davis took home another championship poster and medal from the Reed City Girl's invitational on Sunday December 28th. Markie pinned Conway from Kalkaska, then won by Technical fall 18-1 against her Thompson from Reed City, before pinning Vandyken from Cedar Springs in the championship match at 155lbs under the spotlight. Davis gave up one single point on the day. Alexa Crisman came in 4th place at 115lbs, getting her first pin of the season against Manning from Mancelona in the consolation round.

On Thursday the boys Varsity Basketball team took a trip to Pineview Homes in Evart where they spent the evening with at-risk youth. Each player was assigned two boys who stay at the homes and they were able to talk with them, play games and also present each of them with a gift, a John Wooden book, which in the book each player wrote some words of encouragement. Coach George spoke to the group after dinner along with Captains Zaiden Phillips and Blake Rider. Coach George talked about the team and what his goal is each year for his players; to have fun, to be better men-husbands-fathers, and to see them all in heaven some day. Zaiden and Blake talked about the John Wooden book and what the book means to them. After dinner the team finally got to shoot some hoops with all the boys. What a great experience for the Team.

The Varsity boys basketball team has had some young hoopers get the chance to be a part of the team on game days. These boys names were drawn and they got to spend the day with the team. It started with team dinner, sitting with them during the game before, locker room pre game, and then helping with warm ups along with joining them in the bench for the game.

Last night the Tigers Varsity team beat the visiting Eagles 72-60. To scorers for the Tigers were Zaiden Phillips 26, Blake Rider 20 and Jack Swanson 18. Owen Chesebro provided a huge defensive spark off the bench and Kohen Obenauf continued to make his mark on the boards. Great team win!

To all spectators in attendance at our home games, please take a look at our expectations while attending games. We have expectations in place for the safety of everyone in attendance, spectators, players, officials, and event staff. The past couple home games we have had many kids up behind the bleachers, under the bleachers and even going in and out the side door by the boys locker room bringing in snowballs. As a general reminder, supervision of children at athletic contests is the responsibility of parents and guardians. We love to see the packed gym on game days as well as the support from everyone. Let's make sure we are doing our part and are there to watch and cheer on our athletes.

The Tiger Wrestlers are back on the mat Wednesday as the play host to a CSAA Tri.

The boys teams are back at it tonight with another home game against the Eagles from Kent City.

Girls basketball heads to Kent City this evening to take on the Eagles.

Grant's girls wrestlers ventured Sunday to Gull Lake for the Blue Devil Classic. Markie Davis, a junior, captured the 145 championship. The first round seen Markie with a pin, the semi finals a 15-0 tech fall, and then a second period pin against her state ranked opponent from Dowagiac to finish her dominant day.

The Tigers competed at the annual Mark Bosse Memorial Tournament in Hart on Saturday, December 13th. Grant finished 8th out of 15 teams. Senior Kashton Atwood led the charge, winning the championship at 132lbs. He defeated the number one seed from Lakewood by tech fall 15-0 in the first period. Senior Cameron Espinoza took home Silver at 126lbs, falling to his State-ranked opponent from Hart. Freshman Gary Jacobson also took home Silver at 120lbs, losing a close championship match to his Lakewood opponent. Sophomores Kaden Smith 215lbs and Antonio Santana finished in 6th place each. Grant hosts Central Montcalm and Lakeview on Wednesday, December 17th at the Grant Middle School.
