Grant Public Schools Awarded Nearly $21 Million State Infrastructure Grant
Grant, MI — Grant Public Schools has been awarded a $20,907,243 infrastructure grant from the Michigan Department of Education to support critical facility improvements across the district.
The grant is part of $224 million in state infrastructure funding awarded by the Michigan Department of Education to 31 school districts across Michigan. The funding is intended to help districts address critical infrastructure needs, including projects related to heating, ventilation and air conditioning, roofs, electrical systems, plumbing, fire protection, and other facility improvements.
For Grant Public Schools, the nearly $21 million grant will support roofing, electrical, and HVAC projects at the district’s Jr./Sr. High School, Upper Elementary, and Early Elementary schools.
“This is an incredible investment in Grant Public Schools and the students, staff, and community we serve,” said Kevin Akin, Superintendent of Grant Public Schools. “These funds will allow us to address important infrastructure needs, improve learning environments, and continue planning responsibly for the future of our district.”
The state infrastructure grant is separate from the district’s non-homestead operating millage renewal on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The two funding sources support different needs and are not interchangeable. Grant funds are designated for eligible facility projects, while non-homestead operating millage revenue is part of the district’s general operating budget and supports day-to-day school operations, including staffing, student programs and supports, transportation, utilities, classroom materials, and other operational needs.
This grant funding will help the district address critical facility needs and support safe, efficient learning environments for students and staff. The projects are expected to benefit the district for years to come while addressing facility needs that may otherwise be difficult to fund through the regular operating budget.

It is an investment in the future of Grant Public Schools and the generations of students who will learn in our buildings.”
