What is TRAILS?
The TRAILS (Transforming Research into Action to Improve the Lives of Students) program is a school-based mental health program that helps students learn skills to manage anxiety, stress, and depression using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) strategies.
What will my child learn?
In the group, students will:
Understand how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected
Learn ways to identify and challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts
Practice coping skills to manage stress, anxiety, and strong emotions
Build problem-solving and resilience skills
Develop healthy habits for improving mood and daily functioning
How does the group work?
Small group setting (typically 4–8 students)
Meets weekly during the school day
Led by trained school staff (such as a counselor or social worker)
Includes discussions, activities, and real-life practice of skills
What are the benefits?
Students often:
Feel more confident managing stress and anxiety
Improve focus and participation in school
Build positive coping strategies they can use at home and in life
How can parents support?
Encourage your child to attend and participate
Ask your child what skills they are learning
Reinforce coping strategies at home (deep breathing, positive thinking, problem-solving)
Communicate with school staff if you have questions or concerns
