Primary homeowners are not affected.
The millage does not apply to a homeowner’s primary residence. It only applies to non-homestead properties, such as businesses, rental properties, second homes, commercial property, industrial property, and some vacant land.
Non-Homestead Operating Millage Renewal
Non-Homestead Properties Only
On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, voters will consider a non-homestead operating millage renewal for Grant Public Schools. This proposal would renew an existing millage that is set to expire with the 2026 tax levy and supports the district’s day-to-day operations, such as staffing, utilities, transportation, classroom materials, and educational programs.
The proposal is for four years, from 2027 through 2030. This is a renewal, not a new tax.

Who Does This Apply To?
The non-homestead operating millage applies to properties such as:
Commercial properties
Industrial properties
Rental/income properties
Second homes
Some vacant land
What Would the Renewal Support?
Revenue from the non-homestead operating millage provides approximately $1.8 million annually, accounting for nearly 9% of Grant Public Schools’ annual operating budget.
These funds support day-to-day school operations, including:
Utilities and building operations
Classroom materials
Student supports
Transportation
Staffing
Maintaining safe, functional learning environments

What Happens If the Renewal Is Not Approved?
If the millage is not renewed, the State does not replace the funding.
Grant Public Schools would need to reduce its operating budget to account for the lost revenue. This could require difficult decisions about programs, services, staffing, and other supports for students.
